Access Info

The town of Yamada is located on the Sanriku coast. In recent years, access from inside and outside Iwate Prefecture has been greatly improved by the development of expressways and railways. The town is easily accessible from the Tokyo metropolitan area and the Kansai region, making it convenient for sightseeing and attending events.

Access by Car

  • Coming from the direction of Morioka
    Morioka Minami IC → Via Miyako Chuo JCT → Sanriku Expressway Yamada IC (approx. 1.5 hours)
  • Coming from the direction of Hanamaki and Kamaishi
    Hanamaki JCT → Via Kamaishi JCT → Sanriku Expressway Yamada Minami IC (approx. 1.5 hours)

Access by Train

  • Tokyo Station → Morioka Station
    (approx. 2.5 hours by Tohoku Shinkansen)
  • Morioka Station → Miyako Station
    (approx. 2 hours on the JR Yamada Line)
  • Miyako Station → Yamada Station
    (approx. 40 by Sanriku Railway)

Kamaishi and Yamada are also accessible from Tokyo via Shin-Hanamaki.

Access by Air

The closest airport is Iwate Hanamaki Airport. There are direct flights from most major cities.

  • Fukuoka: approx. 2 hours

From Iwate Hanamaki Airport, most visitors travel to Yamada by rental car or train.

Access by Bus

  • Morioka Station East Exit → In front of Miyako Station
    (approx. 1 hour and 40 minutes by Iwate Prefecture Kita Bus 106 Limited Express)
  • In front of Miyako Station → In front of Yamada Station
    (approx. 50 minutes)

By express night bus from Tokyo Yaesu to Roadside Station Oista or Roadside Station Igubesu takes approx. 10 hours.
